Doom 2016 - PC

Every monster and demon you come across can be Glory Killed - there are tons of these sickening
execution animations. Each one is based on the angle of the kill, what weapon you’re carrying and
which demon is getting its life extinguished.
Evil demons, massive guns and a fight to save... well, everything. That’s what DOOM is all about, and a more welcome remake is hard to imagine. This revisiting of one of the games that helped define the FPS genre is extremely exciting, and we’re hoping that the developers manage to capture the essence of the originals. Then again, with id Softworks doing the hard labour, we probably have nothing to be concerned about.

Developer Profile:
Veteran studio id Software began developing the original Doom back in 1992 and remains one of the industry’s most enduring elder entities. Known for building bespoke game engines for all its past releases, the Texan outfit has become a cornerstone of FPS with Doom, Quake, the original Wolfenstein games and Rage.

Details:
Format: PS4, PC, Xbox One
Origin: USA
Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
Developer: id Software
Release: 13 May 2016
Players: 1-12

Developer History:
Doom 1993 [PC]
Quake 1996 [PC/N64]
Doom 3 2004 [PC]
Rage 2011 [PS3/Xbox360/PC]

High Point:
Back in 1999, id chose to take the moreish multiplayer of the Quake series and tweak it into the impeccable social shooter that is Quake 3 Arena. It’s so good that it’s still in pro tournament play today.

Retro: Turrrican II: The Final Fight 1991

Playing like a cross between Metroid and Psycho-Nics Oscar, Turrican II is one of the best run-and-guns on the Amiga, delivering sensational visuals, a stunning score and hectic gameplay. The five worlds are huge in scope, while it features some truly gigantic bosses and a satisfying array of weapons. It appeared on consoles (greatly cut down) as a movie tie-in for Universal Soldier.

New Microgaming Slots Released in December 2015

Black Friday has come and gone, and Cyber Monday is also over. This means that the holiday shopping season is full on, with game releases coming to invade our socks on Christmas Eve. We've already covered the most notable PC game releases for December. So now it's time to look at another type of games, with a simpler set of rules and an easier to learn gameplay: slot machines. To play the latest mobile slots on your phone, take a look at these fresh releases.

Isle of Man based developer Microgaming has prepared four new titles for the last month of the year. All of them are video slots, but this doesn't make them worthless pieces of software. On the contrary - slot machines are the perfect casual game. And the fact that they are often available for PC and for mobile as well makes them the perfect cross-platform game.

Star Dust is the first of the four new slots Microgaming has launched this month. It's a simple game with beautiful visuals and a relaxing ambient soundtrack. Its reels are filled with gems and playing card symbols against an outer space background, and its reels bear a "galaxy" symbol with a special role during the game. It is the perfect way to relax after a long day at work.

Serenity is another relaxing slot, this time focusing on lanterns. The Asian-themed game comes with a soothing guzheng soundtrack, set against a beautiful - and indeed serene - background. Its reels are filled with lanterns, which are the theme of one of its bonuses. Having three or more Lantern Bonus symbols land on the screen will take players to a guessing side game, where they can reveal consistent wins hidden under - what a surprise - lanterns.

But enough of the relaxing for the day, let's see some action instead. Microgaming's latest branded slot machine is called Bullseye, and is inspired by a classic TV show with the same title. The main character of the game is Bully, a darts-playing bull, who has a special role during the game. The Bullseye slot machine has a definitely retro look and feel, but it has all the features you might expect from a modern slot machine.

Finally, let's get on the festive side of the month with Microgaming's Happy Holidays video slot machine. The game is overflowing with Christmas spirit - its reels are full of socks, gingerbread and the joy of winter, with sled rides, snowmen and Christmas trees. Santa is also present, checking his list twice. The game is visually appealing, and has a festive soundtrack. It is capable to fill its players' socks with loads of goodies (in the form of cash, of course).

Get Even - PC

This one look interesting: an FPS game that takes decision making into account in developing persoanlity traits, and mixes elements of action, thriller, horror and exploration for final effect. It will also blur the lines between single and multiplayer gaming. You might, for example, be playing a single player mission, but one or more of your enemies may actually be controlled by other players. It’s ambitious and exciting!

"Is this a full release, or should it be a third of the price? Far Cry fans, allow me to ease the ambiguity and confirm Primal is more than lavish remix. However, it lacks the innovation and evolution that’s to be expected of Far Cry 5, comfortably slotting in somewhere in-between as a typical spin-off."

Primal carries over all the adventuring and battling of previous Far Cry games, but emphasizes on a genre rarely touched in gaming.

"Looking objectively at Far Cry Primal as an isolated product, it is impossible to deny that it is indeed quite good, but it is not a completely isolated game. The fact that so much content from Far Cry 3 and 4 is recycled means that there may be players who find it overly familiar, and that is the biggest problem we had with Primal. The lack of any multiplayer option will also disappoint some, but Far Cry has always been mainly a solo experience. In short, if you still think you have more Far Cry in you, and if you appreciate the survival theme of the Stone Age, Primal is a safe bet.."

In the tall grass, I’m stalking the Udam as they escort a captured member of my tribe through this forested area. I’m definitely capable of taking them down; I have more arrows than I need because all I have to do is make sure the one that’s readied goes straight through his skull – it’s simple. Well, it’s simple right up until the point where a very cross jungle cat takes exception to my presence and attacks me, alerting the rival tribesman and a nearby bear to my location. Luckily, I dispose of the jaguar with a few flaming arrows and a couple of blows to the head with my club, while the bear has some Udam for lunch.

For a game that’s set some ten thousand years before its modern counterparts, Far Cry Primal feels incredibly familiar. In the coming days you’ll no doubt see words like “reskin” and “mod” being flung around as commentators look to sum up Primal in as few reductive syllables as possible, but even though it has a lot of common ground with other games in the series, Ubisoft Montreal has managed to create something that feels surprisingly substantive, even if it isn’t entirely refreshing.

Diamonds played a pivotal role in the story of Far Cry 2. In a war-torn African state on the brink of collapse, these jewels were prized items of great importance. They could be used to broker a false peace between two warring factions, allowing the warlords to continue their senseless bloodshed without interference from the outside world. Or they could offer someone a chance to escape that hellhole, providing a valuable asset to bribe border agents for safe passage.

The Far Cry franchise has never been afraid of change. Far Cry 2 aimed to be more realistic then the original, Far Cry 3 focused heavily on its story and villains, and Far Cry 4 took the setting out of lush jungles and into the frozen mountains. Far Cry Primal, however, easily takes the cake for biggest change to the franchise yet. Taking players back to 10,000 BCE, Primal ditches its guns, explosives and cars for bows, spears and wild animals. Is Primal a step forward for Far Cry, or is this an extinction event?

EA Announces Origin Access - If you like that kind of thing

It’s what PC gamers have been waiting for! (said pretty much no-one, ever)

Got a spare $5 a month? Want to get relatively super-awesome access to EA games? Origin Access is what you’ve been looking for. For the dozen or so of our readers really excited about this, Origin Access is pretty much what Xbone EA fans have been using for a while now. It gets you access to early trials of upcoming games, and free full game downloads of previous released games.

Right now, that means Dragon Age: Inquisition and Battlefield 4 to name a couple, as well as the non EA This War of Mine. More titles are incoming, but that gives you an idea of the time-lag involved. Origin Access also equates to a 10% discount across all Origin games. The bad news well, Mac gamers are left out in the cold, as are Australian gamers - though EA is promising a roll-out shortly.

Street Fighter V Frustrations and Rant.

Capcom totally dropped the ball with Street Fighter V. The game looks really good. The fighting is still solid. V-Trigger V-Skill and Critical Arts are nice additions to the franchise. However, the game has been trimmed down considerably when compared to prior iterations in the series as well as other fighting games. There is no Arcade Mode which is absolutely absurd. Just about every fighting game has had an Arcade Mode, even previous Street Fighter releases. You can't fight against theCPU in Versus Mode. The Story Mode is extremely short. The Story Mode's cutscenes are merely static images rather than being actual cutscenes. There are only 16 characters in SF V when compared to Ultra Street Fighter IV's impressive roster of 44 fighters. On top of that, online connectivity has been a major issue for a lot of people. This is definitely not the type of fighting game that I expected from
Capcom especially when it comes to a prominent and much beloved fighting franchise such as Street Fighter. Mortal Kombat X is the ultimate fighting game experience. The game has an Arcade Mode, Challenge Towers, Training Mode, a lengthy Story Mode, the Krypt, Faction Wars, a functioning online system, a bigger roster of fighters and some free add-ons as well. It looks like Street Fighter V has a lot of ground to make up. Perhaps future DLC and updates can improve the game's current state. I don't plan on purchasing it until things change later down the road. Then again, I can always go back and play Mortal Kombat X, Guilty Gear Xrd Sign and Ultra Street Fighter IV. As much as I blame Capcom for putting an unfinished product on store shelves, I place the same amount of blame on those who purchased Street Fighter V to begin with. Gamers knew what they were getting when they decided to purchase Street Fighter V and that was an unfinished game at launch. Capcom ended up charging $60 for an early release title, plain and simple. What makes it worse is that there are some gamers out there that are OK with buying an unfinished product and at the end of the day they cry foul because they feel that they got ripped off by the developer as a result. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time that developers have released unfinished products with examples such as, Star Wars Battlefront, Evolve and Forza 5. Resident Evil Revelations 2 released episodically as well as the upcoming Hitman game. As much as I love modern gaming I love the simplicity when it comes to old school games because the games were complete and fully working the day that you bought them. Even PS2, original Xbox, Gamecube & Wii Games worked from day one. Unfortunately, we are now in a gaming era where unfinished releases, episodic games, microtransactions, DRM, required online connectivity and massive updates are part of the norm. Its time to get out of that norm and stop buying unfinished video games.

Street Fighter V - Reviews

Reviews           Screenshots & Specs Need to Know Videos

Rating: 87/100

GameInfo: Birdie and Charlie Nash make their return to the Street Fighter universe, where they join classic characters like Ryu, Chun-Li, Cammy, and M. Bison. Many more new and returning characters will be added to the diverse roster, offering a wide variety of fighting styles for players to choose from. New Strategies and Battle Mechanics: Highly accessible new battle mechanics, which revolve around the V-Gauge and EX Gauge, provide a new layer of strategy and depth to the franchise that all players can enjoy. V-Trigger: Unique abilities that use the entire V-Gauge, giving players the opportunity to inflict damage when activated. V-Skill: Utility skills (such as evasion) for each character that can be activated at any time. V-Reversal: Unique counterattacks that use one stock of the V-Gauge. Critical Arts: Ultimate attacks that use the entire EX Gauge. For the first time in franchise history, the online community is unified into a single player pool, allowing for even more rivalries to be born.

Street Fighter is back once again. But unlike any game in the series, Street Fighter V is a service that will keep expanding with free updates and modes. While the single Player modes are currently a bit lacking, the already announced free upcoming modes do make up for it. Capcom also had the genius to include fans in the making of the game, giving us access to early betas and listening to our cheers and moans. This allowed Street Fighter V to evolve in the right direction, and building, in the process, a great game with interesting mechanics, great visuals, unique characters and most importantly a robust netcode.

It’s hard to criticize something that seems like it was tailor-made for a wannabe competitive player like me, but I just can’t ignore how little Street Fighter 5 does for the average fighting game player. It sports a wonderful, diverse cast of characters, places a clear emphasis on strong fundamental play, it gives competitive players a great online experience, and it does it all while looking gorgeous. Strictly in terms of mechanics and competitive features, Street Fighter 5 is just about peerless, but it has quite a ways to go before it stacks up against other fighting games - including its own predecessor - in terms of overall content.

When Street Fighter IV launched in 2008 after the series spent nine long years of hiatus, it set a monstrously high standard for fighting games, receiving universal critical acclaim and securing a spot as one of the best games of its generation. Developing a sequel to such a game was no doubt an uphill task, but Capcom managed to pull this off with much aplomb.
83/100
GameWatcher
If Capcom keeps up its promised content schedule and the content quality is there, this game arguably draws pretty damn close to perfection. At launch, it’s a strong recommendation with the caveat that the game is somewhat lacking in content right now - but by June, with trials mode, three extra characters, full online lobbies and the full story mode, this game should be killer. With all that in mind, for now let’s call Street Fighter V an 8.5 out of 10 – but if all goes to plan, it’ll find that extra point and a half before the year is out.
85/100
GamesBeat
People who got into the fighting game community with Street Fighter IV may not want to hear this, but from a base design, Street Fighter V is by far the superior game. Capcom has paved over and smoothed out a lot of the things I didn’t like about Street Fighter IV’s design. A lot of those issues created poor play habits, which makes it feels like Capcom is making small steps to mature the game, and in turn is trying to mature how the player base plays fighting games.

Light on content at release you can still tell that Street Fighter V is shaping up to be the premiere fighter of its generation. There's lots more on the way and when it's all here the reign of Street Fighter will be undisputed.

Super now, Ultra when it's finished, Street Fighter V review. I've been playing Street Fighter as long as I can remember, and nearly everyone I've met has had a different approach to it.

The new V system and updates to the fighting system make this a deep and gloriously fun fighter for pros and casuals alike. With a cracking roster of characters, a deep suite of online options and more single player content on the way, it’s hard to find fault with the bigger picture Capcom has in mind here and, assuming the online issues are dealt with quickly at launch and the rest of the game modes arrive as promised, this is looking like a perfect round.

Street Fighter V is the series at its best. Whether you're an experienced Street Fighter or a complete newbie, this is your chance to get involved in what will be an amazing competitive experience. Are you ready to accept the challenge?

Capcom unleashes its latest Street Fighter game on PS4 and PC with a selection of characters, modes and stages to do battle. But rather than opt for a standalone game has upped the ante with a game open to updates so that in the future everyone has access to the same content whether you pay or play.

THE WITCHER MINUS THE WITCHER

MOD Which her do you want to be?

The Witcher needs a quest where Geralt swaps bodies with Triss.

I get the feeling The Witcher 3 is something of a swansong for CD Projekt’s world-weary monster-hunter. He’s travelled over all Temeria, identified and slaughtered every type of monster, and shagged just about every witch in the Lodge of Sorceresses. The next game might well give a new character a chance to shine, but if you can’t wait that long, here’s a mod that replaces Geralt with Triss, Yennifer, Ciri or Shani, the four major women in his life. The mod isn’t quite there yet. You’ll continue to speak with Geralt’s voice, despite your gender swap, although you could chalk that up to magic I suppose. It’s still a great mod, however, even if incomplete – after three games’ worth of quests and romances featuring these characters, it’s pretty wonderful to be able to walk a mile or two in their  shoes.  If you’d rather they stuck around to keep Geralt company on his wild hunts, you could also try  the Spawn Companion mod. This lets you bring Ves, Ciri, Lambert, Eskel or Kiyan along with you – they’ll fight at your side, but won’t ask for half of your loot in return.

TICK TOCK ISLE

DEMO We have all the time in the world

It’s fun when an adventure game tries another genre on for size. The lovely Tick Tock Isle is dressed up in the clothes of a platform game, but, as you might notice when you try to jump on something, it’s really more of a puzzley point-and-click affair. This demo plonks you in the shoes of an engineer named Strike, who visits an uninhabited island to fix a decrepit clocktower and finds himself cast back in time to happier days. The art is gorgeous, the dialogue is pretty funny, and the central mystery is mysterious enough to pull you along. If you’re tempted to pick up the full game, Squiddershins’ time-hopping tale is only a couple of pounds on Itch.

TIMRUK

FREEWARE I can read you like a book

Studio Oleomingus’ mythical larger game Somewhere can’t come soon enough, given these exquisite tantalising glimpses. Timruk is the latest short adventure froma world very like our own: an alternate India, perhaps, where stories affect reality, andwhere people find themselves trapped inside the pages of books. As you read about such a fate befalling an unlucky painter’s son, you begin to notice the very papery wall textures, andwonder if the same thing could have happened to you. Oleomingus’ games are astonishingly easy on the eyes and ears. Sink intothisworld forabit, then joinme in counting down the days untilSomewhere is finally out.

Friday the 13th: The Game

Developer: Gun Media
Crystal Lake is now a semiopen- world location. Let the hunt begin.

What it is: the logical endpoint of the age-old horror watcher’s screams of, “Why aren’t you just running away?!” now you get to control the bong-huffer/stink-nerd/bikini girl/ muscle jock of slasher cliché, and run to your palpitating, soon-to-bee viscerated heart’s content. unless, that is, you’re in control of grotesque mummy’s boy himself Jason Voorhees. the premise is simple – it’s one Jason vs seven camp counselors. Voorhees has to stalk and dispatch the teens in any number of movie appropriate ways (slapping them against trees, say, like screaming fish), while the teens can either find means of escape alone, or work together to take Jason down. it’s a multiplayer deathmatch that just happens to use classic movie moments as mechanics.

Big Because? this isn’t just a game – it wants to be a worthy follow-up to the films. the game was originally a horror homage, Slasher vol 1: Summer camp, but when Jason creator Sean Cunningham saw the pitch, he offered something a little better. “We were fooling around with what started out as a Friday the 13th website,” says cunningham in an interview on the game’s kickstarter page, “and we said, ‘We’ve gotta have a game!’ it had all this stuff we wanted to use, and it took the experience to this new, big, ballsy level.” Summer Camp had already attracted tom Savini, harry manfredini and Kane Hodder – Friday the 13th effects artist, composer and Jason actor respectively – and Cunningham’s involvement on top of that elevates the game to something beyond a licensed tie-in. the aim is for it to feel like a new Friday the 13th film is being made every time you play – right down to ‘trailers’ – of  highlights being made in classic ’80s style at the end of every round.

HITMAN’s Plans Begin to Take Shape

Details:
Format: PS4, Xbox One, PC
Origin: Denmark
Publisher: Square Enix
Developer: IO Interactive
Release: 11 March 2016
Players: 1

IO has been releasing some important intel on its newest Agent 47 outing in recent months, as well as  holding the game back into 2016 to allow a little more development time. A smart move as far as we’re concerned, as it takes it into a quieter release period and may give players a chance to get a  grasp of exactly what they’re paying for.

Hitman will be launching with its Paris, Sapienza, and Marrakech levels as previously detailed, each with hundreds of NPCs, plenty of replay value and the ability to set up and play other people’s  contract missions in each too. After launch, we’ll get additional locations, starting in April with a  mission somewhere in Thailand. May will take us to the US, and in June we’ll visit Japan.

The game will be released as a full-priced game up front, which will automatically unlock the new content as it’s released, or a Starter Pack version will be available that you can upgrade later. We’re  still not entirely sure this way of releasing the game will appeal to everyone, but we like aspects of it  very much, such as the way it will allow IO to adapt to feedback on the opening missions for later content. Plus the core game is looking very good right now.

Star Citizen - Game Information

Developer Profile
Chris Roberts is heading up development of Star Citizen from the US over several continents and time zones, but he started out making BBC Micro games in Manchester. His break out game came after he returned to the US with Wing Commander, followed by Privateer, Starlancer and more.

Developer History
Wing Commander 1990 [Multi]
Strike Commander 1993 [PC]
Wing Commander: Privateer 1993 [PC]
Starlancer 2000 [PC, Dreamcast]

High Point
Wing Commander remains the touchstone for pretty much everything Chris Roberts has done since its release. Even when Roberts took a break from the games industry for a while, it was a Wing Commander movie he went to make first.

A turn of phrase that probably bounces around a lot at Cloud Imperium Games these days is ‘haters gonna hate’. For all the fan fervour and interest in space exploration game Star Citizen, there appears to be as much scepticism and, from some quarters, outright accusations of subterfuge going on. What is it about this massive space travel and combat MMO that could be driving people mad on either side of this equation? Well, money plays a big part in it. Star Citizen has now crowdfunded its way to a $100 million war chest for development and it’s still picking up more support. And with some investors putting as much as $30,000 into the project there is a concern that people are being asked for too much to get this game made. So much in fact that they could never get a final experience worth the amount of money they’ve invested. Since no-one was twisting their arm to donate, we’re inclined to argue that this was their choice and it will be up to them to decide whether the investment was wise when the final game launches. In the meantime, the Star Citizen alpha 2.0 has shown off some excellent progress for the game, binding what had previously been individual modules into a cohesive whole.

Format PS4, XO, PC Pub 2k Games Dev Hangar 13 ETA Summer

Vietnam veteran Lincoln Clay means business in this crime caper set in ’68. In recent footage he scares info from a snout by stealing his car and driving like a maniac, then parks up and infiltrates a jazz club to ice drug-peddling mobsters. The largely loading- screen-free sandbox packs plenty of  pursuits, from purging gang hideouts to dividing up your turf. Seamlessly blending cover-shooting, wheel-screeching, squad-building strategy and sightseeing set to a banging soundtrack, Mafia 3’s  relocation to New Orleans looks a smart move.

Furi - PC and PS4

FANS OF hack and slash games rejoice, because The Game Bakers has a treat in store for you. Essentially one long boss fight, Furi’s combat was inspired by the fast-paced and responsive Japanese games of yesteryear. Oh, and the art design has been created by none other than Afro Samurai creator, Takashi Okazaki, while creative director and game creator, Emeric Thoa promises a soundtrack filled with electro music.
