Swarm Reviews and more

Based on 1 critics - Overal Score: 85 / 100

GameInfo: Swarm is an action-platform game in which the player controls up to 50 characters known as swarmites who operate as a collective to achieve their goals. The objective is to reach the end of the level with at least one swarmite remaining. Throughout the levels are health packs which will restore the swarmites' numbers to 50. The levels also contain checkpoints which serve as the point where players will resume play if they lose all 50 swarmites.

Points are earned by collecting strands of DNA found throughout the level. Some strands can only be collected by having several swarmites and using them collectively to retrieve the strand. The swarmites can huddle together for strength and speed boosts, stack on top of one another to reach high obstacles, and jump as a group to reach certain areas. All of the swarmites are controlled both individually as well as in a collective; each swarmite has their own unique AI that interacts with other swarmites and the commands given by the player. Swarmites will dynamically walk around objects and obstacles, each choosing their own path based on player commands.

Vindictus Review ratings and more

Based on 1 critics - Overal Score: 78 / 100

GameInfo: Vindictus is a "hack and slash" MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) created by devCAT, an internal studio of Korean free-to-play game publisher Nexon. Vindictus is a prequel to the popular MMORPG Mabinogi and is known as Mabinogi Heroes outside of North America and Europe.

Vindictus takes place in the same setting used in Mabinogi, but is placed chronologically several hundred years prior to the first game during a period of war and strife. Nexon America, Nexon's North American division, announced the new name on March 12, 2010 at the Game Developers' Conference in San Francisco.

Vindictus follows Nexon's traditional free-to-play model. The game itself will be free to download and play and charged no purchase price. The game will contain a virtual item shop to purchase in-game items through Nexon points to enhance the player's character's appearance, abilities or to revive a player.

The Games Machine
The reboot of the NFS series is a convincing arcade game, with an accessible yet pretty deep driving model. The PC version comes with all the additions released in the past few months (except the Photo Mode, coming soon), and it truly shines for its beauty: provided you have a decent machine, you'll enjoy the best races ever seen on 4K screens. The support for the driving wheels is a nice touch, well implemented and appreciated, even in an arcade game like this one. Read full

GamePro: Though delayed, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood shines on the PC. Brotherhood adds a rich new chapter to the tale of the war between the Templars and the Assassins. Plus, according to our reviewer Andrew Hayward, the new multiplayer modes are an absolute blast. Read Full Review

PC World: "In the course of reviewing Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the third instalment in the popular franchise, I took some time to reflect on what makes this particular series so popular.
Sure you can extol the game for many things. Great gameplay, awesome voice acting and the occasional steamy sex scenes are just a few of them. But what gives the games that X factor?
I think I know what it is. Ninjas." Read Full Review

The Escapist: "It's important that you know right from the start that I really loved Assassin's Creed 2. I loved the Italian Renaissance settings, I loved the Grand Theft Auto-meets-Spider Man gameplay, and I even loved the sci-fi/art appreciation/historical thriller plot. The only downside was that the game ended right in the middle of the action. Now, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood picks up the story again, delivering all the things I loved about the original game, and a few new surprises as well." Read Full Review

FTG: During E3, when Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood was first announced, and Ubisoft showed off the idea of a multiplayer component, I couldn’t believe it could ever work. In the months leading up to Brotherhood’s launch, I became hyped to the idea of the way the multiplayer was developed and was prepared to buy the game for this mostly-multiplayer game. When I picked up Brotherhood, I was surprised to see the full-length single player game that wasn’t just copied and pasted from Assassin’s Creed 2. Read Full Review

CVG: Overall, Brotherhood is an awesome package with enough new content to kill the competition this Christmas.Story limitations and a few failed mission experiments cement our statement that it's not Assassin's Creed 3 - but with a lick of paint it would've come dangerously close. There's enough quality and scope here to put Brotherhood in the running not just as a top Christmas purchase, but one of the best action games of the year. IGN: There's a lot to like; the game is undeniably solid, while the multiplayer offers a unique experience. The game runs well on a modest modern gaming rig, and while the graphics aren't bleeding edge, it's hard not to be impressed by the scale of its recreation of Rome. PC owners also benefit from the inclusion of all the DLC to date out of the box. If you’re new to Assassin’s Creed, this is a solid entry, but picking up the threads of the convoluted story may be a challenge. If you’re an experienced assassin, on the other hand, expect to tread pretty similar ground to the last title. Read Full Review

Drunk on Judgement: If you didn’t play Assassin’s Creed 2 then you might be a little lost as far as the storyline in Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. At the end of Assassin’s Creed 2 Ezio escaped the grasp of the evil Templars. Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood still has Desmond Miles occupying the Animus virtual reality device in the shoes of Ezio Auditore. Ezio is now trying to defeat the Borgia and the Templars to rebuild Rome. Read Full Review

Attack of the Fanboy

Taking the loot-based shooter to a new level, The Division features a gorgeous world to explore, full of interesting items to collect, and tons of players to team up with. The enemies are still bullet sponges, and the missions can get repetitive, but the social elements allow for a lot of fun to be had once you get a good group together. An engaging story and enjoyable characters are just icing on the top of what will likely be one of the best shooters of the year.

Total War: Shogun 2 Review scores and more

Based on 11 critics - Overal Score: 90 / 100

GameInfo: This is the latest installment in the Total War series and returns to the 16th century Japan setting of Shogun: Total War.

Shogun 2 will have a combination of real-time strategy and turn-based strategy gameplay, a staple of the Total War series. The player plays the role of both the clan leader and general, alternating between the "campaign", where the player manages his land and armies turn by turn, and the "battles", where the player takes control of the army on the battlefield in real-time.

In the "campaign", the player will need to oversee the development of settlements, military production, economic growth, and technological advancement.
The armies and units will be organized and moved around the stylised campaign map by the player to carry out battles with other factions. In addition to fighting, the player will be able to engage in diplomacy, political manoeuvring, and special agents to gain the upper hand. Ninja and geisha are confirmed to be included in the game as assassins and spies.

In Shogun 2, leaders and generals will be given personality and depth in gameplay. Generals and agents are to be portrayed as "larger-than-life" heroes with unique characteristics and powerful abilities. The player will be able to improve and unlock traits and special abilities for the characters as they gain experience. However, the player will also be inclined to engage in family politics within the clan, to keep its members loyal.

The "battles" of Shogun 2 will involve large-scale skirmishes between armies that meet on the campaign map, taking place on land or on water. The developers proclaim they are paying particular attention to re-designing the naval and siege battles appropriate to the new setting. In contrast to European castles and forts, the castles in feudal Japan had multiple tiers, and thus the siege battles in the game will put less focus on wall defences but more on courtyard brawls and tactical manoeuvring. Also, the players will fight naval battles with unique Japanese ships resembling "floating castles", and take into consideration melees on ships, arrow fire, coastal terrain, and other factors.

Shogun 2 will feature multiplayer battles as well as multiplayer campaigns that may involve more than 2 players. In a multiplayer campaign, players can be grouped into different clans, so that for each clan, one player assumes the role of clan leader and others take command of armies. The clan leader will have the ability to direct other players and assign rewards based on loyalty and performance, introducing clan politics into multiplayer. As a player's army invades an enemy territory or is attacked by enemy armies, the online matchmaker finds a suitable opponent and initiates a multiplayer battle. When a player defeats enemy armies and conquers territories, the player will gain points and other bonuses for the clan. In addition, an achievement system is designed to provide adhering players with unique abilities and cosmetic upgrades.

Examiner The RTS genre may be the purist gaming genre remaining, as there isn't a leading RTS game most companies are trying to mimic. There is so much diversity from Dawn of War, Supreme Commander, Total War, Sins of a Solar Empire and many others, that you have a good chance of picking up a current RTS and not having it feel like another.
