Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty Review and System Requirements

GameInfo: Rescue your fellow meat factory slaves in this nostalgic, classic platformer with the latest immersive graphics and design. Find your destiny
Once a happy floor waxer in Oddworld's biggest meat processing plant, Abe stumbled across his boss's secret plan to turn the factory's slave labour force into the latest in the RuptureFarms Tasty Treats line of novelty meat snacks.

Abe now has to save his own skin from the grinders even if simply escaping the flesh farm is only the start of his Oddysee. Trigger-happy hunting parties, carnivorous sacred beasts, ancient temple traps and even a return to his former workplace await Abe on his journey to discover his people's heritage.

Review
Before I start

I was looking forward to this game, since the Devs hired people and had their website back up. So this review is of a game, I was really hyped for a ♥♥♥♥ lot of time. I also played all of the other Oddworld games, beginning when I was 6. I grew up with them and the stories played a mayor role for me in my childhood. The more I wanted this game to be the better and tastier than all others before.

Gameplay

The game features mostly the same mechanics as Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee. For oldschool fans, it is hard to get used to the new default keyboard settings and I am not sure, if they are an improvement. The mechanics are otherwise, as in Abe's Oddysee, still well and slowly explained through the level-design and helpful notes, whenever you reach a new obstacle.

Graphics

Graphically, it has fancy next gen graphics and fluid animations. There is only one big problem. It seems not to very good support some graphics cards from Nvidia, which make the game run fluently only on tiny resolutions and with all the settings (especially shadows) set to very low. This may be fixed in near future, since it is was released the day, I wrote this review. The cutscenes however run fast even with all the settings set to max.

Soundtrack

The soundtrack has really improved since the original game. It is ambientic, and really puts you in the right emotions. Only a shame, they don't offer it as extra content to buy.

Story

Throwing you right into the action, the story is still the same awesome story of Abe, as he first flees from Rupture farms, freeing all his buddies, just to get godly powers to finally shut it down afterwards. It is very well told in great way, as it was in the original game too. The story has no twist. It is easy to understand, unique and yet still really thrilling.

My Rating

The game is a fantastic remake of a cult classic and I love it!

Gameplay: 9/10 (-Weird default controls)
Graphics: 8/10 (-Still very buggy!!)
Soundtrack: 10/10 (Would love to buy)
Story: 10/10 (Classic, Awesomely told, Unique)

Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty!
9,25 / 10
Awesome game, that can only possibly improve through bugfixing.

There Came an Echo Review and System Requirements

GameInfo: There Came an Echo is a real-time strategy game in which the player assumes command of a small squadron, using an advanced voice recognition system to issue orders.

Review: The voice command control scheme works really well, with a decent alternative if using voice isn't your thing. The story is fairly short, but the quality of it and the voice acting easily makes up for it.

The characters react and interact well with what you say.

There is also a War Room mode where you can test out strategies, weapon combinations and custom commands you've set.

Along with those features, the soundtrack is really great. Big Giant Circles and Ronald Jenkees did a fantastic job on it and it fits the theme of the game very well.

I look forward to Iridium Studios' next game, as well as spending more time with this one.

The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 Review and System Requirements

GameInfo: Legends foretold it. Prophecies predicted it. Chosen ones chose to believe in it. Now the adventure saga continues. A sequel is coming. Join Wilbur, Ivo, Nate and Critter in another classic point-and-click adventure in the wicked world of Aventasia. Help them fulfill their destiny. A destiny as yet unwritten.

Review: Point and Click adventure with witty dialogue, great knowledge of tropes and genre, puzzles that manage to be complex while logical (generally) and enough of all to last you a good while. I'm 2 chapters in (out of five) and Steam tells me that took about 7 hours. That's with not necessarily finishing every optional side-puzzle chain and skipping lots of the audio dialogue (the voices aren't bad at all, I just read faster and prefer to move along in games this text-heavy).

I'd perhaps recommend playing the original first to get to know the characters and be able to follow what continuity there is. I can't say what it's like to fresh eyes, as I played and loved the last game ages ago, hence backing the Kickstarter for this immediately.

Fractured Soul Review and System Requirements

GameInfo: In Fractured Soul 3D, players take on the role of interplanetary rogue, Jake DeSaul a man with a checkered and mysterious past who must confront his demons in his desperate plight to escape an eerie and malevolent space station. As they progress through each level, the boundaries between dream and reality continue to blur as Jake faces a lifetime of regrets, hopes, dreams, and what might have been in his efforts to reconcile himself with his past.

In order to help Jake, players must blast their way through 20 exciting and brain bending platform levels spread across five distinct worlds - each offering a unique challenge including inverted gravity, damage, wind, ice, and underwater. Additionally, there are four shoot 'em up levels that also make use of the screen switching. Each level is timed and ranked to encourage replayability.

Review: An enjoyably challenging platformer that also implements Ikaruga-like levels scattered throughout the game. At first, it was a bit too short for the asking price.

However, after talking with the developers about certain issues and immediatley fixing the problems thereafter, these guys deserve every penny.
If you like Mega Man or Vectorman, this is a no-brainer.

Pixel Heroes: Byte & Magic Review and System Requirements

GameInfo: Enter the world of PIXEL HEROES and prepare yourself for a thrilling RPG/Roguelike experience like you have never seen before!

Review: I have played this game since it was on Desura. This game is very well polished and maintains a quality throughout it. To get the full enjoyment of this game, make sure to read descriptions and the conversations of every character. I have seen references to Lord of the Rings and other popular entertainment.

This game is a standard rogue-like game in which you begin by recruiting three heroes from a tavern to take on quests. You then accept a quest from the town folk and set off to various locations to fight through monsters, thieves, and dungeons. I really enjoy fighting through towards the boss. However, at certain times you find chests that you can either smash, try and open, or bypass. It seems like the chests are more frequently dangerous than beneficial, so I've unfortunately begun to avoid them.

All in all, I give this game a 8/10. Unique graphics, fun gameplay, and wit spread throughout the game.

Total War: ATTILA Review and System Requirements

GameInfo: Total War: Attila is a strategy game developed by The Creative Assembly and published by Sega.

Review: So far so good. It looks like they incorporated a lot of old stuff into it, as well as expanded on many aspects. Family trees, more cinematics, a good looking map, improved AI, hordes..it feels much more vast. Haven't ecountered any bugs or anything.

Will give a further review after some time playing around with it. Not really digging the arrow graphics, and can't find a way to turn off their trails, but that is pretty minor. Feels much more immersive than Rome 2.

Rise of Incarnates Review and System Requirements

GameInfo: Rise of Incarnates is a multiplayer free-to-play fighting video game published by Bandai Namco Games.

Review: Pretty interesting for a game. It has a makings of a good game but too bad for its lousy business model. Read the CONS for more details. The best conversion rate is $120 for 15200 IP. What you are downloading for now is a 24 hour demo which allows you to famililiarize yourself with the characters. All the characters expire after 24 hours + 6 days.

PROS
1. Great tutorial
Teaches most of the basics step by step and easy to follow. I am most impressed by how they allow you to go into individuals sessions without redoing the whole tutorial. Compared to other games that don't provide a tutorial or give lousy instructions, the tutorial is surprisingly well-done.

2. Characters
8 characters so far. Brilliant story. There's even a comic that creates the world that the characters are fighting in.

3. Story
Good story to go on. Powerful being prophesised to destroy the world called the Sovereign is going to end the world and you need the power of the Incarnates to stop it. The US government and its president Sanders is trying to tag all Incarnates for "national security reasons" while battling other factions such as Kruger who is trying to promote an Incarnate revolution in the EU.

Each character has their own story and background and you can read more on their website.

CONS
1. Cash Shop
You rent characters in this game for a period of time, after which, they expire and you continue to use IP to use the character. This is absolutely horrible and makes me disgusted at how they want you to keep paying more and more money to feed any "love" for the game.

2. Few stages
Only Paris and New York so far. Pretty boring arenas.

3. Windowed mode
Probably needs a controller to play this game. Mouse and keyboard in windowed mode causes the game to create pinging sounds each time I press WASD.

Castle In The Darkness Review and System Requirements

GameInfo: Castle In The Darkness is a fun and challenging shout out to the early days of video games! It's an action exploration platformer with some RPG elements, much like games from the Castlevania or Metroid series. It's super fast-paced, challenging, and full of secrets!

Review: An amazing but often frustating game that every Metroidvania fan should own.

Took me awhile to get into it. At first I was irritated with the mechanics and over-use of references, but it all grew on me. The thing with this is - it doesn't just have "a lot" of references, it's actually built on them. About 90% of the game is a reference to something, and almost nothing is original. Whether or not you like that is up to you, but it ended up giving the game personality in my opinion, where at first I felt like it made it devoid of any.

It's not -just- difficult, either. The Dev straight up trolls you in some areas, and others the quick jumping and tough jump-height control can cause quite a few extra deaths. Can feel a bit slidey as well. You get more skilled with each death though, to the point where when you need to back-track you'll be thinking "Oh, I thought this was hard? Psh." It's a nice since of progression that you can't get from just leveling up. (You don't level up in this, just talking about other games.)

I think it showed about 5 and a half hours for 100% for me, but it resets the timer if you die. I've spent atleast 18 hours wandering aroung looking for things. At 98%, I finally asked on the forums where to find a couple things. Although it doesn't have quite the depth/scope of SOTN, it's the first game in awhile that's come close to giving me that vibe.

Anyway, I'm still wandering around in New Game+ even after 100%ing it. Love it.

Offworld Trading Company Review and System Requirements

Review: When I first saw this it looked promising, nice new RTS to play.

I've been playing it for awhile now and all I can think is how I got fooled into dropping 35 bucks for this. The balance is practically non-existent, the AI seems to make horrifyingly bad choices and at times it seems like the game is straight up cheating as ridiculous as that may sound. A particular example of this happened in one game when the bot, finding itself roughly $80,000 in debt, suddenly and inexplicably, had it's stock-price nearly quadruple while it's debt only increased.
It then proceeded to use it's newfound debt to buy me out in all of twenty seconds.

Deciding that perhaps operating so far in the red that you're in the black must be how you do things on Mars, I tried a similar strategy only to be met with the bot making the same miraculous turn-around only a few days in.

Setting aside the questionable balance for a moment, I'd also like to point out that the audio is almost impossible to understand at times. But I guess that's kind of a moot point considering the probables you're going to have to go through to play this miserable game.

All in all? Save your money for a better game. Wishing I'd stuck to the "avoid early access at all costs" lesson I keep learning and ignoring...

APP Review: Ridiculous Fishing

This game is exactly as it sounds - first of all you cast your line and try to catch as many fish as you can. Then you yank them out of the water, whip out your shotgun and blast the fish as they tumble through the sky! Ridiculous, but cool!

Astray Review and System Requirements

Review: Astray is a great addition to the first person horror genre fallowing in the tradition of games like Penumbra and Amnesia. The game was the perfect length for the mystery to unravel in satisfying chunks. The graphics were very atmospheric, and the game mechanics worked perfectly. At the end i was shocked to see the credits contained only two names, for that reason alone i would recommened this game as a true achievement in indie gaming, I have played hundreds of small dev-team games, and this was by far the most impressive in that arena.

Verdict: 80/100
