Once a happy floor waxer in Oddworld's biggest meat processing plant, Abe stumbled across his boss's secret plan to turn the factory's slave labour force into the latest in the RuptureFarms Tasty Treats line of novelty meat snacks.
Abe now has to save his own skin from the grinders even if simply escaping the flesh farm is only the start of his Oddysee. Trigger-happy hunting parties, carnivorous sacred beasts, ancient temple traps and even a return to his former workplace await Abe on his journey to discover his people's heritage.
Review
Before I start
I was looking forward to this game, since the Devs hired people and had their website back up. So this review is of a game, I was really hyped for a ♥♥♥♥ lot of time. I also played all of the other Oddworld games, beginning when I was 6. I grew up with them and the stories played a mayor role for me in my childhood. The more I wanted this game to be the better and tastier than all others before.
Gameplay
The game features mostly the same mechanics as Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee. For oldschool fans, it is hard to get used to the new default keyboard settings and I am not sure, if they are an improvement. The mechanics are otherwise, as in Abe's Oddysee, still well and slowly explained through the level-design and helpful notes, whenever you reach a new obstacle.
Graphics
Graphically, it has fancy next gen graphics and fluid animations. There is only one big problem. It seems not to very good support some graphics cards from Nvidia, which make the game run fluently only on tiny resolutions and with all the settings (especially shadows) set to very low. This may be fixed in near future, since it is was released the day, I wrote this review. The cutscenes however run fast even with all the settings set to max.
Soundtrack
The soundtrack has really improved since the original game. It is ambientic, and really puts you in the right emotions. Only a shame, they don't offer it as extra content to buy.
Story
Throwing you right into the action, the story is still the same awesome story of Abe, as he first flees from Rupture farms, freeing all his buddies, just to get godly powers to finally shut it down afterwards. It is very well told in great way, as it was in the original game too. The story has no twist. It is easy to understand, unique and yet still really thrilling.
My Rating
The game is a fantastic remake of a cult classic and I love it!
Gameplay: 9/10 (-Weird default controls)
